  • Abstract
How can we understand past migrations in the perspective of regional history? This study examines the origin of Overseas Koreans in French Indochina and their life and family histories. The Koreans began to populate French Indochina in the first half of the 20th century. Jeon’s family is the subject of a case study. A crucial part of this case study is focusing on Jeon Yeong-sang’s memoirs. Then, I will try to reconstruct his memoirs and interpret his past experiences, taking into account local and regional circumstances. It’s more of Jeon’s private life. With its focus on life and family histories, the case study of migration can analyze the emergence of new regional connection to French Indochina from Korean Peninsular by way of Manchuria and Hong Kong. This connection reflects the extent to which Overseas Koreans felt politically, socioeconomically, and culturally accepted, respected, included, and supported by others in the local situation.
