The HK+ Mega-Asia Research Group
Studies of ‘Asia’ generally focus on specific countries or smaller regions. To move beyond this fractional approach, our research group aims to ask bold conceptual and phenomenological questions about Mega-Asia, by studying Asia in its entirety, as a single entity.

Our objectives are:
First, to systematize regional comparative research into Asia by deepening and broadening existing traditions of regional scholarship
Second, to investigate the power of Asia’s regional identities and the formation of Mega-Asia
Third, to combine the humanities, social sciences, and data science to establish foundations for converging regional research programs
Fourth, to foster expertise in Mega-Asia and in Asian regional comparative research

Building upon these foundations, our group’s ultimate mission is to highlight Korea’s role in Mega-Asia. More than anything, we at the HK+ Mega-Asia Research Group and Seoul National University Asia Center place great importance on distributing our research outcomes regionally, nationally, and globally.
Seoul National University Asia Center and the HK+ Mega-Asia Research Group want to lead the way as a hub for regional research that places Asia, and the accumulation of knowledge about Asia, at its heart.
We will deploy the competencies within Seoul National University Asia Center to undertake comprehensive data gathering and analysis while also making the dissemination of our research methods and results the highest priority. We will build networks with international research groups and use the Asian Regional Information Sharing System to share and publicize our research. At times, this process could be slow and winding, but we are determined to overcome any problems and deliver outstanding research.
We at the Seoul National University Asia Center and the HK+ Mega-Asia Research Group ask for your interest and understanding in this journey. We ask for your warm encouragement and support in this endeavor, and we ask that you generously give your advice and actively participate in building a superb research program.
