In defining the concept of a “mega Asia,” the HK+ Mega Asia Research Group intends to establish new perspectives and perceptions of Asia. These efforts begin not only with issues regarding the universality and/or particularity of Asia itself, but also the regional units constituting Asia. One of the important goals of this research group is to examine how regional units in Asia are created and how regional units interact with one another.
Beginning in the first half of 2021, the HK+ Mega Asia Research Group has been planning and editing the “News from Northeast Asia” section of “The Newspaper” published by the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) in Leiden. Through this newsletter, it is hoped that research conducted by the HK + Mega Asia Research Group will be shared worldwide. In addition, it is hoped that the publication of this section will contribute to efforts to further internationalize the research group by providing a channel to connect Asia researchers from all over the world with the HK + Mega Asia Research Group.
