Researcher Bio
Dong-Kyun Im is a sociologist who seeks to analyze social and cultural phenomena from the perspectives of social psychology and cognitive sociology. He has actively used the social cognitive perspective in his previous research and has much methodological knowledge and experience relating to social research. He has continuously used new methodologies related to survey experiments in social research, and has participated in surveys concerning reciprocity and cooperation in Korean society every year for the past 8 years. He has participated directly and indirectly in various public opinion surveys and conducted research using unstructured data techniques. He has extensive experience in constructing and analyzing social science data, and has collected qualitative data by conducting focus group interviews regarding individuals’ use of SNS, complaints about noise between floors, and trust in Korean society. In addition, he has conducted theoretical research aimed at understanding Korean society qualitatively and in-depth in the context of continuing digital transformation, and research on the reconstruction of personality in the platform society.
He is a Korean participant in the International Social Well-being Consortium, which includes researchers from several Asian countries. He served as editor-in-chief of the SCOPUS-registered Journal of Asian Sociology, and currently serves as director of the Social Development Research Institute at Seoul National University.
