- Abstract
The way in which Asia has been perceived by the West has predominantly been discourse-based. This article approaches the topic of Asia through empirical data analysis. New methods of data analysis were applied to assess what it can reveal in terms of what has been published in the West regarding Asia’s heritage. First, recent and frequently appearing keywords were grasped within what has been published by Western publishers. Second, a more in-depth analysis was conducted on the keywords that frequently appear in published materials for selected Asian countries regarding their heritage. Third, the Routledge Handbook of Heritage in Asia was examined to gain a broad idea of Western approaches and perspectives regarding Asia and its heritage. Through this pilot study, our partial aim was to test out this research method and its outcome.
