- Abstract
The purpose of this study is to explore the identity of Mega-Asia. MegaAsia is a theoretical concept that envisions a new and integrated (or connected) Asia, which has recently been discussed by scholars. Given that Mega-Asia has theoretical or methodological strengths while distinguishing itself from existing Asian discourse, this theoretical idea of Mega-Asia may be used continuously in the future. Despite the importance and timeliness of the Mega-Asia concept, several questions arise around Mega-Asia. Among these questions, this study attempts to answer the question of what identity Mega-Asia has. To this end, we assume that Mega Asia has the characteristics of both a theoretical system and methodological tool, and then we bring an idea of Immanuel Wallerstein’s world-systems analysis, which encompasses the characteristics of the theoretical system and methodological tool. By explaining world-systems analysis understood as a theoretical system and a methodological tool, we try to explore the theoretical and methodological features embedded in the concept of Mega-Asia. Although we show some the theoretical and methodological features of the Mega-Asia concept, we will clarify that this study is preliminary research in revealing the identity of Mega Asia.
