Abstract The results show that among adults aged 40 and older, symbolic threat and negative perceptions of specific immigrant groups were significantly associated with anti-immigrant sentiment, whereas only negative perceptions of ethnic Chinese Koreans and media exposure exhibited significant associations in younger group. The older cohort showed that more frequent contact alleviated symbolic threat, while within the group perceiving high economic threat, contact intensified anti-immigrant sentiment. These findings suggest that distinct psychological and social pathways underlie the formation of anti-immigrant sentiment across generations, highlighting the need for differentiated policy approaches that account for generational characteristics.
